The StartUp/MoveUp initiative identifies specific areas throughout Morris County, NJ as nutrient-rich environments for business growth.

Morris County, NJ is the birthplace of the electric telegraph. Thomas Edison moved his operations out of NYC to New Jersey, eventually establishing Bell Labs’ headquarters just over the border in Union County.  Design, engineering and operations for the cell phone business evolved in Morris County. The pharmaceutical industry grew up here.  Biotech followed suit

Innovation in Morris County extends beyond science and engineering. The Arts and Crafts Movement, the international architectural and interior design from classic to modernism found its US beachhead in Morris County. Louis C. Tiffany, of the Tiffany jewelry company, had innumerable glass design assignments

commissioned here – just a single testament to the community’s support of the creative and the new.

Fortunes have made here and continue to be made. Morris County didn’t become the 6th Wealthiest County in the US just because railroad magnates moved here during the Gilded Age. It’s wealthy and desirable because it holds an intellectual powerhouse that raises all boats in the county. And access to capital starts with local pitch competitions and ends in meetings with investors.
